Hackmanite is a sulfur-rich variety of the mineral sodalite, highly prized by collectors for its tenebrescence—a uncommon optical phenomenon where the stone reversibly changes color when exposed to sunlight or UV light. When removed from UV exposure the stone will return to its ordinary state. Hackmanite strongly glows bright orange or yellow-orange when placed under an ultraviolet blacklight also.
